I see the art of storytelling as a strong tool in order to find wisdom and understanding. The work of storytelling includes both cerebral hemispheres, senses, pictures, the body, and the entirety. I see the opportunity to use this language any number of times - in meetings with kids, young people and adults. On working places, insitutions ands schools, communities, groups and in individual and personal contexts.
To me the art of storytelling is a place for remembering and giving room for traditions and rituals such as weddings, parties, gatherings and ceremonies.
Through stories we bring the human ways closer to refreshment and transformation.
The stories lives in the meeting with other art forms - as the story has always done; visual art, music, songs, movements, dance, poetry, theatre, installations and other new art forms like poetry slam and so on.
The meeting between people has always been an important part of my fascination with the theatre.
The possibility to meet across the ages, cultures and opinions in a magic, concentrated sensuous room, where the reality opens in new dimensions, while we can laught and cry together and smell the sweat of the storyteller and feel the resonance of the voice agains our skin and the story ringing in our bodies.
I have told stories in big halls and on stages, in the jungle, in the market place and in the square, class rooms, conference rooms, on the lawn and in cottages at fireplaces - and the story has taken shape in the meeting with these places and the audience at these places.
I am interested in the fact that stoires can give room for the audience's own inner figuratively shaped capacities and creative resources.
By letting the story follow a single archetypical form and by telling it face to face with the audience, a room is shaped for the audience to fell their own breath and the shared breath in the whole room.
I am interested in daring to make the expression simple but present.
Interested in daring to follow the fundamental pictures and dramaturgy of the myths and fairytales and daring to let them live and be presented with the very simple and at the same time very deep quality they contain.
By this I experience that the art of acting gets a room because the work with the voice and the body becomes essential - both as a figuratively shaped sound and form in the room but also as a energetic resonance in the audience. The storyteller may if necessary explore her own presence and contact with the audience and the story being told.
At best the form of the storytelling theatre succeds in shaping its own meaningful pictures at the audience, shaping a human meeting and a contact between everyone in the room of the story.
And at best the story gives room for the invisible interaction and the synergy between the player and the audience, which gives people the opportunity to experience the performance as a shared creating process.
A room opened for improvisation, resonance and the magic of the moment.
